The first week of the month is always popular among members of the Rotary Club of Farmington. It’s when the club recognizes its Students and Senior Citizen of the Month. The award recipients, a high school senior, a younger student and a local senior, are selected because they embody the club’s motto of Service Above Self.

On March 3, the club recognized Farmington High School senior Amanda Brasgalla, Riverview Elementary School fifth grader Leah Louis and Marilyn Briesacher.

Amanda is the president of the German club at FHS. She is a member of the Link Crew, Youth Teaching Youth, Tiger Leadership Club and National Honor Society. She is also on the girls swim team.

“I’m in a lot of clubs. It keeps you really busy,” she said. “I’m always that person you can rely on to be there.”

Amanda hopes to attend college on the east or west coast.

Leah Louis was chosen because she is respectful and a good leader in class. She works hard

to be a role model to her fellow students.

“A role model doesn’t think twice,” she said. “I go above and beyond and make the classroom and school a better place.”

Marilynn Briesacher volunteers in a number of ways at Rambling River Center. As a member of the fundraising committee she has helped collect $71,000 in three years to pay for the renovation of the former city hall. She also volunteers at Farmington Lutheran Church.

“It’s easy to volunteer for something you are really enthusiastic about,” she said.
