Recognizing excellent students

The start of a new school year is always welcome at the Farmington Rotary, because it means we get to start recognizing Students of the Month again.

On the first Thursday of each month the club pays tribute to a high school senior who exemplifies the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. These students — most come from Farmington High School and at least one each year comes from Christian Life School — are all involved in several school activities and usually in volunteer projects they take on outside of their school life. They’re all excellent students, and they all seem to have so much going on it’s hard to imagine when they find time to sleep, eat or do all of the troublemaking people seem to think teens are up to these days.

It’s all pretty inspirational, and it will make you wonder what you were doing with your time when you were their age.

You can help us recognize our first Student of the Month of the 2010-11 school year at noon Oct. 7 in the back room at Celt’s Pub in Farmington. The address is 200 Third Street. We’re there at the same time every Thursday, and we’d love to have you join us for lunch.
